feedback (focus group)

Due to family related issues, I missed the focus group with the class themselves, as a solution to this, I showed my music video to a friend that studied media (Jai), a friend who knows/enjoys the song I created the music to (Molly) and two other friends who had never heard the song before (Jack and Draven). After they had finished watching the video, I asked them a series of questions I had prepared and noted the answers down to further help my process. What elements of this video stood out to you in a positive way? Jai:  "I really enjoyed how the cuts all matched the tempo of the song, I found it visually pleasing. I also liked how when she said drifting through the water, you were stood infront of the water, it made that lyric itself stand out" Molly: "I liked how you used relatively the same colours throughout the video and how the colours you were wearing made you stand out from the background" Jack: "I liked the two scenes where the characters approached...

Schedule

Image
Due to me having issues with excel, I have made a listed time schedule rather than a gantt chart, here i have listed all of the tasks I need to. get done, when I should start them and when they should be finished by. Bellow you will find a brief evaluation of how well I followed it. Throughout this project I have completed all of the production tasks on time, however, If I could change anything I would give myself more time to reshoot as I have some footage I wish I could change but could not because of poor weather conditions. I, however didn't complete any of the evaluation by my planned finish date due to organisation problems, next time I would to improve, create a gantt chart so I can more effectively manage my time.

Story Board

shot 1:  Camera angle:  Below eye level to make audience look up at her to relate to the tower in the lyrics shot type:  Midshot shot length:  7 seconds action:  The protagonist will begin the video by siting ontop of a climbing fame in a kids park playing the ukulele. misce en scene:  I want to use mostly blues and greens for this shot to emphasise the melancholic feelings the lyrics create as well as to help the protagonist stand out as she will be wearing a singular item of red to symbolise she still wishes to find love no matter how she denies it. No other people should be in this shot to emphasise the isolation. editing:  cut from this shot to shot 2 Shot 2: Camera angle: Eye level to make the audience feel ass though they were there shot type: long shot shot length: 7 action: Two people hold hands and act romantic to show exactly the opposite of what the protag wants, as she believes it is unrealistic and nothing but a "silly dream" misce ...

Shot list/location scouting

Location scouting: Due to the amount of visibly different shots I want, I ideally wish to film in three main locations with at least two different areas in each location I can film in. Nuneaton-Stockingford recreational park Pros: - There are 5 separate areas to film in - Really close to my house so can go home to change equipment incase of any accidents - Public area, free to film in Cons: - Often litter dotted about and can be dangerous due to glass - Often people in all areas potentially worth filming in - Can be dangerous place  I have decided to use this as one of my filming locations because it is a large open space, conviniently located and has a variety of feature that could be useful towards my video. Nuneaton-The dip Pros:  -3 separate areas to film - Conveniently located making equipment transporting easy - open so is well lit Cons: - ground is uneven in places making unstable for equipment - often get people on pit bikes through, making potentially dangerous ...

Song choice and initial research

Song choice- Why? The song I have chosen to create my music video for is a song called Cynical Fairytale by an indie-pop singer/songwriter called Egg. I have chosen this song for many reasons such as wanting to explore this genre of music and creating a music video with the genre conventions of indie-pop. I am hoping to film a performance based music video with a narrative message conveyed behind some of the shots.  target audience I will be conducting a short questionnaire to verify the demographics and psychographics I wish to target along with ascertain the video styles the audience would prefer. distribution method I am choosing to distribute my questionnaire on twitter and facebook on fan pages for egg and similar artists such as Dodie Clarke. This is to get mainly responses from the target audience. Questionnaire:  What Age Group are you in? 15 and Below 16-18 19-21 22-30 30 and Above What is your gender? Male Female Other When listening to artists such as Egg or ...

Contingency Plan

This contingency plan is to ensure production can still go ahead incase of any unforeseen circumstances. This is to create precautions for said unforeseen circumstances, Budget issues: In a case of a situation such as a location owner pulling out and not allowing us to use it for our production or any accidental damage to equipment. An additional sum of £2500 has been added to the final budget. This prevents us from having to use more money than planned on certain aspects of the production, forcing us to lessen the amount available to spend on other thing, in turn lowering the quality of the production. In the case of rain or bad weather whilst filming our outside shoot we will hire out the location for longer than we necessarily need and even further, in case of weather worsening, we will hire out a different area of Bristol with a shelter to prevent damage. This should cost the same as the original location as it fits under the location types that the local council hires out. In...

Evaluation

The task I was given for this unit was to develop strong ideas and plan for a series of videos with an interlinked visual style and narrative focus. This task was given by the company fruit bowl tech and was to promote the release of their new app, aimed at 24-60 year olds fitting in the social class of ABC-1 and the psychographics of explorers, aspirers and mainstreamers. One of my tasks was to develop my video ideas and plan to appeal to the personalities of these demographics and psychographics whilst conveying the family focus the app has. This is in order to increase the sign ups to the app. The success of the video would've been measured by the amount of sign ups to the app. To begin, my initial idea was to create a short video showing a story of an engaged couple trying to find ways to reconnect with family members and end up discovering family members they were unaware they had. As the project went on, a number of variables such as client feedback and research helped me co...

cast

Image
First I started with looking for the average salary /hour for actors/actresses. Most pages I found including payscale and talent.com state that the average hourly wage for an actor/ actress is £11 per hour. However I also decided to look further into the casting of actors so as I could be sure we hired professionals only that would help produce the quality of content we wish to achieve in our video. I have decided to find my main 4 actors/actresses on  https://www.mandy.com  because it presents you with the ability to broaden your search to age, location and key words. When clicking on a chosen actor or actress, you are shown a list of their past productions, any reviews of their acting skills, what type of project they are looking for and many other details.  I have decided to pay my actors £16 per hour due to the higher amount of pay is more likely to allow us to hire more experienced and professional actors/actresses. I will be hiring the main 2 actors for a maxi...

Final Budget Summary

Crew: £1524 Equipment: £1387.15 Cast:£860 Location: £625 Additional incase unforeseen circumstances: £2500 Final Budget required: £6896.15 Above you will find the final budget created for this production. This was created after careful and detailed research into all the different elements of the production that will require payment. I have added an additional sum of money to the budget as a precaution for any unforseen circumstances such as weather damage to equipment or locations becoming unavailable.  I am happy with the outcome of my final budget as not only does it fit with the rough budget the client and I agreed upon, but it sits considerably lower as well. This is an advantage as if for some unknown reason we were to be forced to go over budget, we would still be more than likely able to fit within the original rough budget of £8250.

crew on set

cinematographer/cameraman For my research into how much a professional cinematographer would cost us i went to a variety of websites and pages, looking into average hourly pay a professional cinematographer would earn. According to  https://www.payscale.com  , the average base hourly rate for a cinematographer is £21 /hour. But then I also found from the same site that the average cameraman earns £40 /hour. This is a sign to me that we want a cinematographer specifically because after doing some research to create a distinction between the two, it became clear to me that cinematographers are typically higher level professionals. https://www.pocketpence.co.uk  states that the average hourly wage is £15.50. After looking into the averages of hourly wages, I also realised it would not be smart to pay them the minimum we can because not only will this effect how professional and trustworthy of a cinematographer we can get, but this is also morally not the best route of...
