Evaluation of editing

To begin with, I was tasked with critically reviewing the development of editing technology. I believe, that whilst I did this within my post called "The development of editing technology", if i was given the chance to re-do this post now after developing knowledge on the topic, I would add a section for each heading suggesting potential pros and cons for each one as well as giving and example where they were used and how it changed the production. Even so, I find my post on the development of editing technology to be informative and gives the knowledge required. Throughout this course, within multiple units, I have had the opportunity to analyse genre specific editing techniques, whilst I definitely showed which different editing techniques are used throughout my french new wave notes as well as briefly mentioning the within my music video inspirations, I definitely was not as analytical as I could have or should have been, whilst I showed the genre specific techniques in t

The pros and cons of a focus group

A focus group is a research method used to gather feedback on a product/ project from people who voluntarily gather in a group to give said feedback. For example, a focus group used to gain feedback for a new promotional video, would consist of a small group that would watch the video and then they would all partake in a guided conversation, usually giving the pros and the cons, any ideas they have to improve such as stylistic choices or specific ideas to help target chosen demographics and psychographics. A focus group is qualitative research method which is used to gather user based opinions on the product they are discussing Procedure and sampling methods: There are multiple methods that are used for selecting ideal participants for a focus group, whichever sampling you chose will depend on what you want to use the information for. However, the most commonly used sampling method is convenience sampling when it comes to focus groups, this is where you select participants you believe

feedback (focus group)

Due to family related issues, I missed the focus group with the class themselves, as a solution to this, I showed my music video to a friend that studied media (Jai), a friend who knows/enjoys the song I created the music to (Molly) and two other friends who had never heard the song before (Jack and Draven). After they had finished watching the video, I asked them a series of questions I had prepared and noted the answers down to further help my process. What elements of this video stood out to you in a positive way? Jai:  "I really enjoyed how the cuts all matched the tempo of the song, I found it visually pleasing. I also liked how when she said drifting through the water, you were stood infront of the water, it made that lyric itself stand out" Molly: "I liked how you used relatively the same colours throughout the video and how the colours you were wearing made you stand out from the background" Jack: "I liked the two scenes where the characters approached

Schedule

Image
Due to me having issues with excel, I have made a listed time schedule rather than a gantt chart, here i have listed all of the tasks I need to. get done, when I should start them and when they should be finished by. Bellow you will find a brief evaluation of how well I followed it. Throughout this project I have completed all of the production tasks on time, however, If I could change anything I would give myself more time to reshoot as I have some footage I wish I could change but could not because of poor weather conditions. I, however didn't complete any of the evaluation by my planned finish date due to organisation problems, next time I would to improve, create a gantt chart so I can more effectively manage my time.

Story Board

shot 1:  Camera angle:  Below eye level to make audience look up at her to relate to the tower in the lyrics shot type:  Midshot shot length:  7 seconds action:  The protagonist will begin the video by siting ontop of a climbing fame in a kids park playing the ukulele. misce en scene:  I want to use mostly blues and greens for this shot to emphasise the melancholic feelings the lyrics create as well as to help the protagonist stand out as she will be wearing a singular item of red to symbolise she still wishes to find love no matter how she denies it. No other people should be in this shot to emphasise the isolation. editing:  cut from this shot to shot 2 Shot 2: Camera angle: Eye level to make the audience feel ass though they were there shot type: long shot shot length: 7 action: Two people hold hands and act romantic to show exactly the opposite of what the protag wants, as she believes it is unrealistic and nothing but a "silly dream" misce en scene: wearing similar col

Analysis of 3 music videos

Dodie Clarke- 6/10 Song meaning The general meaning of this song is feeling insecure. She conveys this throughout lyrical meaning along with the pace of the instrumental.  "I feel like a 6/10, I've gotta get up early tomorrow again"- my interpretation of this lyric is whilst she doesn't feel ugly, she also doesn't feel attractive. Dodie has conveyed this the through a rating to possibly link to the way society views peoples looks as people often rate people looks out of 10 as if it is a competion. She furthers her views of her feeling unremarkable by saying she has to get up early again, this could mean that she feels, like how she views herself, her life is repetitive and un-extrodinary. Later in the song she repeatedly says "what goes on behind the words? is there pity for the plain girl".  This suggest that she is anxious about how people view her and furthers her thoughts on herself being "plain". Later in the song she repeats "I know

my final video and evaluation

Cynical Fairytale I found this project quite enjoyable and found myself learning a lot throughout. I believe as a whole my final production came out good, however could use improvement. To begin this project I researched into different perspectives of music video theories (vernallis and goodwin). I believe my research on these two theorists was accurate, detailed and informative however if i was given the chance to improve I would add more examples to demonstrate their theories. I then did an analysis of 3 music videos showing some genre conventions, analysing the song and how the video linked to it. I think my analysis was detailed and had a good amount of depth, however to improve I would link in the two above theorists perspectives to add even more depth and perspective. I then scouted out potential locations and created a brief story board showing what I wished to create. As I couldn't find images of my locations anywhere and I didn't schedule for time to photograph the lo
