My Film Plan

 Jaques Lacan

Key words/Phrases to focus attention on when filming:

-Lack of fulfilment

-Mirror

My main idea

My idea is to convey body dysphoria that is experienced by a transgender person. This links to Lacans theory because my characters fantasy of what they wish they could look like feels un-achievable, and due to this they will always feel a lack of fulfilment. I will be conveying this by starting with multiple different shots of the protagonist still looking feminine, wearing makeup and a dress, I will use a variety of shot types to convey their discomfort as the video continues. The protagonist will be shown distressed and taking their make up off, making their hair more "boyish" and changing into less feminine clothes. Even after this character has shown themselves attempting to appear more masculine, they will be shown to feel a lack of fulfilment through showing their maladaptive habits such as smoking and drinking. I will also show the stress of money that suffering with severe body dysphoria can cause through a screen grab of a google search and a shot of the character counting money. The character will also be shown being verbally abused by their peers, negatively effecting their mental health. Towards the end of the video the character will be shown developing more and more negative habits and eventually locking themselves in a room so as no one has to see them, with a dark ending of them lying on the floor next to pills/alcohol.

Shot types

- close ups of jaw line, lips and hands to show what features they wish to change

- close ups of eyes to show difference in appearance does not effect their happiness

- shots from the side in  a bathroom to show them looking in their reflection uncomfortably to represent mirror stage

- pov shots with handheld camera to represent instability
