4 Hour film challenge - Obsession and lust

 The Hugger.

Main idea
The idea behind this video was a man who is obsessed with human touch, specifically hugs. Due to the unforseen circumstances of the pandemic, this man is no longer able to satisfy his itch for hugs, because of this he tries to find gratification from inanimate objects and images of the hugging. As the man never feels as though it is good enough he begins to descend into madness and choses to hug a stranger. But said stranger is extremely uncomfortable with this and shouts at him. This angers the man leading him to kidnap this person so as he has a permanent solution.
How will I shoot this?
The vast majority of this video will be shot on a phone using a gimble but the opening shot will use a tripod and a camera to ensure stillness whilst the close up shot is filmed. Lowkey lighting will be the most used in this production to emphasise the dark undertones of the video.
The beginning of the video will be close ups of the mans face, fidgeting hands and foot tapping to show his levels of growing uncomfort. It will then move onto an over the shoulder shot of the man in complete darkness, the only light being from his computer screen showing him looking at images of people hugging. It will then cut to him being sat under a desk, hugging a book and acting erratic as he gets frustrated that its not good enough. Similarly, it will then be an overhead shot of him hugging a creepy looking drawing of a person he has made. Then it will cut to switching constantly between 2 scenes, in the first one he approaches the girl to hug her and gets rejected, in the second one he walks into a room she is in and drags her out of shot as the door closes. From behind the door you will hear her crying and his reassurances.

Evaluation

I am extremely pleased with the results of this challenge, I feel as though we all worked brilliantly as a group (Cameron and Alex on the cameras, Tee on the lighting and props, Me directing and acting as well as Rory) to effectively capture our idea on camera. To improve, however, I would use more extreme close ups and variety of locations to push us out of our comfort zone and create a more realistic video.
