Lighting equipment and setups that would be used for the following scenarios:

A small documentary where portability is paramount

Lighting- For a documentary where portability is important, lighting equipment that uses batteries rather than wired equipment would be ideal. A good example of this is LED lights  LED panels would be good as the bigger the panel, the softer the light. However you would need a CRI of 90-95 or better so as to match correctly with skin tones. As portable documentaries often rely on natural lighting as well, a reflector would be useful to further the quality of the shots. The gold reflector creates warm, natural fills which are used for sunsets and portraits. Where as white produces a neutral coloured bounce light that is good for fill lighting. Silver increases highlights and increases contrasts this is ideal for product shots and black and white filming. Black is used to either block or subtract light and translucent may be used to diffuse light, this is ideal for creating a soft effect.

Equipment- As portability is paramount, the most ideal solution would be a tripod as they are quick and easy to use, can be compacted and therefore moved around easily and they mage a huge difference to the stability of shots.

A talking head style interview

Location- As the focus of the interview should be purely on the person being interviewed, the background of the video should be extremely simple and have some space between the subject so as the aperture may be changed to allow the subject to be in focus and the background to be out of focus.

Lighting - A soft box may be used to create a soft/natural lighting which makes the interview feel more realistic and personal rather than a scripted interview. The light could be placed at a slight angle from the person so as to cast shadows to further the realistic notion of the soft lighting.

Camera set up- The camera must be close to the person being interviewed so as the audience is able to view the emotion of the person being interviewed and emphasise with them. The camera would be set up on a tripod to maintain constant stability throughout the interview.

A night time shoot

Lighting- Depending on the type of night time shoot you do, the lighting style will change; for example, close and medium shot setups, you will have to re create the source of the light from real life with smaller lights that are close to your subject. In a scene under a streetlight you would place your main light at a high angle over your subject. You could use a reflector (possibly silver) to increase contrast and highlights.

Camera- In order to get correctly exposed and stable shots you would need to use a tripod to maintain stability as the shutterspeed will need to be low. A high ISO will aid in having correct exposure however you will need to be careful as too high of an ISO can cause grain within the image.
